Message from trainer

Churchill Downs has made a big impression with just one crop of yearlings to hit sales rings around Australia. A $950,000 yearling himself, Churchill Downs was the leading first season sire at the 2010 Melbourne Premier Sale with his yearlings selling at an average price of more than $65,000 with his progeny selling up to $150,000.

As a racehorse, Churchill Downs always raced among the best of his year. As a precocious juvenile, Churchill Downs earned more than $500,000, winning at Listed level, finishing second in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic as well as producing a fighting third to the super filly Miss Finland in the 2006 Golden Slipper. Churchill Downs raced and beat the best youngsters around such subsequent Group I winners Gold Edition, Empire’s Choice, Universal Queen, Casino Prince and Wonderful World.
Churchill Downs trained on as a three-year-old to claim the Group II Bill Stutt Stakes and run fourth in the 2006 Group I Caulfield Guineas and third in the Group I Ascot Vale Stakes. The three-year-old was competitive with the dual hemisphere Group I winner Haradasun and beat subsequent Group I winners Green Birdie, Anamato, Sirmione and Danleigh as well as matching motors with the likes of Excites, Mutawaajid and Sniper’s Bullet.

This filly is out of the Canny Lad mare Cantrip. Cantrip has three foals on the ground with Strategic Spell currently racing under the care of Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Mark Kavanagh. Cantrip was a triple city winner from just 10 race starts in the famous cerise Woodlands Stud silks. Danehill blood has mixed with the progeny of Canny Lad with stunning results in the past, throwing none other than Group I winner Platinum Scissors and the outstanding galloper, now champion sire, Redoute’s Choice.

This filly was chosen by Simon Zahra from a paddock of yearlings. “When I first saw this filly I was impressed with her strength. She has a big girth, nice shoulder and was a good mover in the paddock. Mat and I were both impressed by Churchill Downs first crop offered at the sales so we were keen to have her in our stable.”

Update - BC3 sells 2yr old Churchill Downs colt for $120,000 to De Burgh Equine, Ireland.
